The news felt like a physical blow. James sat on his bed, the letter crumpled in his hands, his breath coming in shallow gasps. He didn't know what to think, what to feel. He simply stared at the blank wall, his mind a vast, echoing emptiness.

He felt a deep sense of disorientation, as though the ground had shifted beneath his feet. He ran a hand through his hair, dislodging a stray strand. He slowly rose, moving with sluggish movements. The world outside his window, usually a source of comfort, appeared distant and blurred. He felt an urge to run, to escape, but he did not know where he would go.
