Gemotions

The pounding was a persistent throb in David’s temples. He winced, clutching his head, as a particularly loud clang echoed from next door. His appetite had vanished. He hadn't eaten more than a few crackers all morning, a bitter taste coating his tongue.

He sat on his porch swing, trying to read, but the words blurred before his eyes. Each passing truck, each raised hammer, sent a jolt of anxiety through him. He found himself avoiding eye contact with the construction workers. He wanted to scream at them, to demand they stop, but he couldn't find the strength to do it.
