She shifted in her chair, the leather squeaking in the otherwise hushed room. Her gaze kept darting towards the door, expecting someone to call her out on the charade. This was it. Her last week. The feeling of impending doom clung to her like a damp shroud. She’d spent the last five years here, and now it was ending, just like that.

"So, these are the client files," she began, gesturing towards the overflowing inbox. Her voice was too high, too brittle. She wished she could just disappear.

The new recruit, a woman named Chloe, listened intently, her notepad poised. Every word that came out of her mouth felt like a betrayal. Each shared piece of knowledge was a step closer to irrelevance. The air felt thick, the office walls closing in. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.

"Remember," she said, her throat tight, "attention to detail is key." She just wanted it to be over.
