The office building loomed before her, a concrete giant. She hesitated at the entrance, her hand hovering over the door handle. She just wanted to turn around and run. The thought of training her replacement filled her with a sense of dread.

She walked in, her footsteps echoing in the empty lobby. She tried to appear confident, but her heart was pounding in her chest.

When she got to her desk, she found him waiting. She swallowed hard, trying to appear composed. She gestured toward the screen.

She started explaining, but her throat constricted. She struggled to keep the tears at bay. She forced a smile. She hated this.
