He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, leaving it standing on end. Liam stared at the screen, the blinking cursor of the online meeting invitation mocking him. The presentation he’d poured weeks into was scheduled to start in half an hour. His flight from Chicago to New York, however, was still sitting on the tarmac.

A wave of heat flushed his cheeks. He fumbled for his phone, scrolling through his contacts until he found the number of his boss. The dialing tone seemed to stretch on for an eternity.

He let out a shaky breath as he attempted to compose himself. He repeated, over and over, the key points of his presentation in his head, his voice barely a whisper. The seat pressed uncomfortably against his lower back.
