Sweat prickled on Liam’s forehead as he stared at the email. The subject line, “Farewell,” throbbed in the dim light of his laptop screen. His mentor, Mr. Henderson, the man who had guided him through countless projects, had simply… left.

He felt a sudden, sharp pressure in his chest. His fingers flew to his mouth, gnawing at his thumbnail. He reread the email, each word a cold, hard fact. No explanation, just a generic goodbye.
