I couldn't eat breakfast this morning. Now my stomach was rumbling. I kept staring at the door to the office, willing it to open so the agony of waiting would come to an end. Across the room, my friend, Alex, was casually chatting with another applicant. The job was perfect for us; we had planned our career paths together. Now, the realization that only one of us could get the position made my head spin.

I felt a growing sensation of heat and prickling, like pins, starting in my shoulders and making their way down my arms. I shifted in my seat, trying to find a comfortable position, but there was none.

My hands felt clammy.
