A cold sweat slicked down Leo’s back as he scrubbed at the dishes, his hands trembling slightly. He kept replaying the scene in his head: Sarah, huddled in the darkened hallway, whispering into her phone. He’d tried to catch snippets of the conversation, but all he'd heard were vague murmurs and hushed tones. The sink suddenly seemed too small, the confined space making him feel claustrophobic.

His gut churned. He rinsed a plate, the water running cold over his fingertips. He felt a desperate need to know. He wanted to blurt out a question, but the words caught in his throat.
