Gemotions

The hum of the office felt distant, even though Mark was sitting at his desk, pretending to concentrate on his computer screen. The image of Emily, his girlfriend, sneaking into the office’s janitor’s closet to take a phone call, kept flashing in his mind’s eye. His fingers tapped a rapid tattoo on the desk. He replayed the scene in his head, the way she had looked at him, surprised and then apologetic, when she saw him standing there.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to run, to escape the suffocating weight of suspicion. The silence around him was filled with a buzzing tension.
