The coffee cup trembled slightly in her hand, the hot liquid sloshing perilously close to the rim. It was a familiar anxiety, the kind that had plagued her throughout her own school years. The school's foyer seemed to shrink with each step she took towards the classroom. The fluorescent lights hummed a dissonant tune, amplifying the silence.

She felt a prickle of heat crawl up her neck. Then, she paused at the classroom door. She could almost feel the weight of Miss Peterson’s disapproval, as if it lingered in the air. Her own childhood memories rushed back and made her swallow hard.

She must be strong for her son. This had to be okay.
