The bright sunlight streaming through the windows of the new department seemed to intensify the feeling of unease that had been building inside Mark all morning. He felt a light buzzing in his ears. His new role in Public Relations felt like a foreign country. He smoothed down his hair, a gesture of self-comfort.

He’d spent his career in the structured environment of the legal department, where every word was carefully chosen and planned. Now, he was expected to interact with the media, to spin narratives, to smooth over problems. It was a new world.

The receptionist pointed him toward his new office. He hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and walked forward.
