The weight of the unopened envelope on Sarah's desk was immense. She knew what was inside: an updated performance review, reflecting the recent changes in her role. She also knew that the rumors were true. Her new assistant was being paid more.

She stared at it, her hands clasped in her lap. Her breathing had become shallow.

She pushed the envelope away and began pacing her office. She stopped at the window, staring out at the city below, the distance providing some comfort, however little.
