Chef Leo paced the small kitchen, his steps erratic. His jaw clenched, and his hands were balled into fists. He'd memorized the review, every stinging word. The critic had declared his risotto "a culinary catastrophe," a phrase that seemed to echo inside his head.

He glanced at the stove, at the array of pots and pans. They suddenly felt like alien objects. He considered calling his family, but the words wouldn't come. He had to face his staff, but he knew he wasn't strong enough. He needed time, but the dinner rush was fast approaching.
