Gemotions

The musty scent of aged paper and leather filled Amelia’s nostrils as she flipped through the pages of the dusty novel. Her palms were slick against the worn cover. She'd been looking for something, anything, to distract herself. The interview loomed, a monstrous shadow in her mind.

A small, folded piece of paper fluttered out. Her breath hitched. She picked it up, her fingers trembling slightly. The ink was faded, the handwriting delicate and looping. It was a love letter. She felt a prickle of heat crawl up her neck.

She shouldn't be reading this. But the words drew her in, each phrase a whispered secret. This was better than the upcoming questions. Better than the impending doom.
