The rain began to fall as Mark walked home, the wallet burning a hole in his pocket. Each footstep felt heavy, each shadow seemed to shift and watch him. He had to be smart, very smart.

He stopped beneath the flickering glow of a streetlight. He felt a strange tingling in his fingers, and his stomach churned with a mixture of excitement and dread. He was already planning how to spend the money.

He pictured his wife's face, the joy, the relief. Then, the police flashed in his mind, the jail cell. The clenching in his jaw made his teeth ache. He shoved his hands deeper in his pockets.
