He stared at the screen, the cursor blinking mockingly on the chat window. He’d found a potential half-sister. He hadn’t expected this. He felt a wave of dizziness. He had always known he was adopted, but the idea of an actual blood relative felt alien, unreal.

He’d spent his life as an only child. Now, a person out there, someone who shared his DNA, wanted to connect. He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. He should say something, but what?

His fingers hovered over the keyboard. He looked away, then back. The blinking cursor. He typed a single word, then deleted it. He was a long way from feeling ready.
