Gemotions

The gate creaked open, and Leo stepped onto the overgrown path, the crunch of gravel under his shoes a jarring sound. He hadn’t visited in years. Sweat beaded on his forehead, despite the cool autumn air. He had a tight feeling in his stomach that had him wanting to run.

He knew he should be feeling sentimental, perhaps even a bit sad. But all he felt was this awful, restless agitation. He checked his watch for the tenth time in as many minutes. The demolition crew had not yet arrived, but the absence of the usual neighborhood sounds made him suspect they were on their way.

He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end. He couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched, although the street was deserted.
