The artist, Clara, chewed on her lip, a nervous habit. She’d just finished painting a delicate landscape when she heard the familiar sound of the beagle, Benny, barking from outside. The dog had a habit of trying to eat her prized garden roses.

The thought of Benny ruining her masterpiece or trampling the flowers made her grip her brush. She didn’t want to go out there. She felt like her heart was doing summersaults inside her chest.

She stood up and stared out the window, looking at the dog. She thought about taking a picture for proof.
