The elevator doors hissed open, and Amelia practically leaped out, her heart hammering against her ribs. She’d just texted Mr. Henderson, her incredibly intimidating boss, with a suggestion about the quarterly report. Except, she realized a moment too late, the name she’d tapped was “Dad.” The screen was still lit, mocking her with its bright, innocent light. She fumbled with the phone, intending to delete the message, but her fingers were clumsy, and she accidentally tapped the screen again. Now the message said, "Hey Dad, quick thought: maybe we could leverage Q3’s data to really make the quarterly report POP, lol." She squeezed her eyes shut, a wave of heat washing over her cheeks.

Her boss had a reputation. A very serious reputation. She glanced back at the elevator doors, as if willing them to swallow her whole. The door stayed shut, and she felt a tremor pass through her. Should she call? Text back? Pretend it never happened?
