Gemotions

The party was in full swing, music blaring, and laughter echoing through the air. Emily, flushed with excitement, had meant to text her friend, "Having a blast! Wish you were here," but instead, she'd texted her mom.

A cold knot formed in her stomach. She pictured her mother, scrolling through her phone, her brow furrowed with concern. She felt the blood drain from her face.

The prospect of dealing with her mother's interrogation about the party made her want to flee. She debated a quick exit and then to disappear entirely. She took a sip of her drink, the sweetness doing nothing to alleviate the internal turmoil.
