Gemotions

John felt his muscles tense. He kept adjusting the knot of his tie, though it wasn’t bothering him. His vision felt slightly distorted, as if the walls were closing in on him.

He was usually the one in control, the one who kept things running smoothly. Now, he felt utterly powerless. He took a few deep breaths, trying to maintain some semblance of composure.

“Well,” he said, forcing a smile, “at least we have each other’s company, right?” His words lacked conviction, even to his own ears. He felt like he wanted to jump out of his skin.
