“Just breathe,” Leo whispered to himself, over and over. He kept tapping his fingers against the steering wheel, a nervous tick he'd had since childhood. The journey had been arduous, each mile an eternity. The phone call, the brief, clipped message, echoed in his mind.

He gripped the wheel tighter, his knuckles white. The sight of the street made him feel the blood drain from his face. A cold sweat erupted on his forehead.

He pulled over. His vision was slightly blurred. He stared at the empty space, a gaping void where life had once thrived.
