The envelope felt heavy in her trembling hands. It was the only tangible link to her grandmother, a woman she barely remembered. Ethan, her brother, paced the length of the dusty attic, his shadow stretching long and distorted in the fading sunlight. She could feel his unease emanating from him.

When she opened the envelope, a single key fell out. Ethan, after receiving all of her grandmother's money, had no tangible items left. A rush of cold air flooded her lungs. The key was for a safety deposit box. She felt a prickling sensation on her skin, as if something unseen was watching her.
