Gemotions

The humid air of the Florida courtroom pressed down on her, making her feel like she was underwater. Her brother, Daniel, was trying to appear relaxed, but the rapid blinking betrayed him. He kept adjusting his tie, a nervous tic she’d seen since they were children. Their uncle, a man of eccentric habits and untold wealth, had finally passed.

Daniel was the recipient of a lavish yacht, a mansion on the coast, and a trust fund. She, however, received a collection of vintage maps and a small, nondescript wooden box. A shiver ran through her, despite the heat. She felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of isolation.
