The bright screen illuminated Maya’s face, highlighting the worry etched into her features. She scanned the floor plan, the details slowly sinking in. The layout of the house, the number of rooms, the location of the windows—it was all so familiar, yet so distant. She felt her face flush.

She couldn’t quite bring herself to read the comments section. She was afraid of what others might say, what they might think. Her chest felt constricted. The thought of someone else owning the house, reshaping it, changing it, was almost unbearable.

She rubbed her temples, trying to ease the pressure building behind her eyes. Maybe a distraction would help. She opened another tab, but the image of her childhood home, was still imprinted on her mind.
