Gemotions

The doorbell rang as Emily was about to leave for a date. Her fingers fumbled with the zipper of her jacket as she opened the door. Her breath hitched. A cascade of sunflowers practically obscured the delivery person. She signed the receipt, feeling strangely disoriented. A sense of unease spread through her.

She closed the door and turned, surveying her apartment as if seeing it for the first time. The flowers, impossibly cheerful, felt out of place. This wasn't her usual. This didn't feel right. The anticipation for her date evaporated, replaced by a growing dread. She ran her fingers across the petals, a cold shiver dancing down her spine. The date was off.
