The old leather-bound journal lay open on the kitchen table. The scent of aged paper and faded ink filled the room, a perfume that always transported him. His phone buzzed. A friend had sent him a link. "Hey, saw this. Thought you'd be interested," the message read. It was a link to his biography. His eyes scanned the digital book cover. It featured a candid shot of him, taken years ago at a festival.

The introduction described his early attempts at songwriting, the struggles, the late-night gigs in dimly lit bars. He thought about the songs he wrote in his youth, and how they sounded. He chuckled, a sound of gentle remembrance, and he started to read.
