She sat by the window, watching the snow fall. The world outside was hushed, blanketed in white. She recalled the winters of her youth, the snowball fights, the building of snow forts, the magic in the air. The crackling fire in the fireplace provided a welcome warmth.

The first few pages recounted her family history, her great-grandparents immigrating to a new country. She read about her younger self, her mischievous spirit, her dreams of the future. She felt a pang in her chest, a longing for the simpler days.
