Gemotions

The constant noise was making her irritable. But as she watched the fence panels go up, a strange sensation came over her. She knew this feeling. The feeling had an undertow of sadness, but also of gratitude. She'd spent her life making it.

She recalled the old days, when the neighborhood kids would run through her yard like it was their own, when her own children would play hide-and-seek in the trees. It had been years since those times. The thought made her smile. She leaned forward, resting her chin on her hands. The fence, it would divide the yards, but the memories, like the sun, would always shine.
