The key scraped in the lock, the sound echoing in the silent house. He pushed the door open, inhaling deeply, and he was back. The scent of old books and furniture polish hung heavy in the air.

He stepped inside, his footsteps muffled by the thick carpet. He wandered through the familiar rooms, each one a portal to a different time. He paused in front of the window in his old room, looking out at the world he used to see through those panes.
