He poured a cup of coffee for himself and the new hire, Emily. The ceramic mug, chipped on the rim, felt heavy in his hands. He recalled the countless cups of coffee he'd drunk in this very office, staring at the same view. He'd witnessed sunrises, and sunsets.

He pointed to a framed photograph on the wall – a group shot of the team from five years ago. He was there, younger, brimming with energy. The memory of the camaraderie, the shared laughter, the late-night work sessions, it was a physical sensation.

"Things have changed," he said, gesturing to the photo. “We used to do things a little differently.” He took a slow sip of coffee. “But we always got the job done.”
