The droning announcement of a flight delay to Tokyo echoed through the terminal, silencing the chatter around her. It was the cherry blossom festival. A festival that she and her late husband, David, had always dreamed of attending. The news left Carol feeling deflated.

She felt the cool metal of the watch David gave her against her wrist. A physical, comforting reminder of him. She took it off, staring at it for a long while.

She reached into her bag, pulling out a small, worn photograph. A picture of her and David, young and happy, taken on their honeymoon. The faces in the airport became a blur, a background to the scene playing in her mind. She saw the pink petals in full bloom, the temples, the tea houses. She closed her eyes.
