The string quartet’s rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” drifted through the air, and Amelia felt a familiar ache bloom in her chest. She smoothed down her emerald green dress, the silk cool against her skin, and took a deep breath. Seeing David, her ex-boyfriend, wasn't something she'd anticipated. Not exactly. They had shared many nights listening to that exact song, each time a special memory to be cherished.

He was standing near the bar, chatting with their friend, Sarah. Even from across the room, she could tell he was smiling. He hadn’t aged a day. His dark hair was still perfectly styled, and his eyes still held that same playful glint she remembered.

A sudden wave of warmth washed over her, and her fingers instinctively reached for the delicate pendant around her neck, a gift from him. She squeezed it gently and turned away, focusing instead on the canapés being passed around. Smoked salmon and tiny cucumber sandwiches, all meticulously crafted. She used to make those for him.
