Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled Leo’s kitchen, a scent that transported him back to Sunday mornings at his grandmother’s house. He and Ben used to spend hours there, playing board games and sharing family secrets. Ben, of course, was now a celebrated author, with a string of award-winning novels.

Leo had gotten a hold of the manuscript for one of Ben's new books. It was about his grandmother, and about his friends. All of them. There was no mention of the life he was living.

He looked around the room, the sunlight slanting through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He missed the past. But at least he had bread.
