The weight of the old guitar felt familiar in Ethan's hands, the wood smooth beneath his fingertips. He strummed a chord, the sound echoing in the empty garage. He and Jake had formed a band in high school, dreaming of stadiums and sold-out tours. Jake, now, always spoke of his high-powered executive position, never having time for anything else.

He saw Jake last week, playing the drums at an open mic night at a dive bar. He was smiling. Happy. It was a good beat.

Ethan closed his eyes, the music filling the void. It was not what he expected, but the way Jake had played… It sounded a lot like the music he had been missing.
