The new office was sleek, modern, all glass and chrome. For weeks, John had been anticipating the change. He had imagined himself thriving in the higher-pressure environment, the challenge of a new role. Now, as he sat in his ergonomically correct chair, a wave of melancholy washed over him. He felt an undeniable longing for the cluttered cubicle, the shared jokes, the comfortable familiarity of his old team.

He stared out the window at the distant buildings, the city skyline indifferent to his unease. He missed the way the sun used to stream through the window of his old space.
