Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled his kitchen. A friend request. From Sarah, the girl who had broken his heart in the tenth grade. He felt a jolt of something he couldn't quite define, a mixture of anticipation and dread. He felt oddly lightheaded. He looked around his kitchen.

He was suddenly transported back to his childhood bedroom, the posters on the wall, the scent of his mother's perfume, the lingering aroma of the cookies she baked. He could picture Sarah's face, the way her hair fell, the way her voice sounded. He was back in the school hallways.

He remembered the feeling of first love, the agony of heartbreak. He saw the world through the eyes of his younger self. He walked to the window. The trees outside swayed in the wind. The past was right here, in his present. He closed the browser and stared out the window.
