The chipped paint on the rocking horse was the first thing she noticed. Then her eyes drifted down to the box overflowing with forgotten toys. He was nestled in the bottom, a faded brown bear with one button eye missing. She knelt, her hand trembling as she reached for him. It had been decades.

A wave of warmth flooded her chest, a feeling so intense it almost took her breath away. She gently brushed the dust from his worn fur, her fingers tracing the path of a long-ago stitching repair. She could almost smell the faint scent of her grandmother's lavender sachets, the ones she used to keep in her toy chest.

"How much for the bear?" she asked, her voice a little choked. The seller, a woman with a kind smile, shrugged. "Five bucks. He's seen better days, bless his heart." The purchase felt more significant than a simple transaction. It was a reclaiming.
