Eliza walked through the kitchen, the linoleum floor cold under her bare feet. The sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, the same way it had always done. She lifted the chipped teacup from the shelf, its familiar weight a comfort in her hand. The air seemed thick with memories, with the aroma of Earl Grey tea and the clinking of spoons.

She found herself opening the pantry, her fingers instinctively reaching for the jar of ginger snaps. Her grandmother had always kept them there, a treat reserved for special occasions or when someone needed a little boost.
