Dust motes danced in the late afternoon sun, illuminating the chipped paint of the diner's booth. Leo ran a hand over the worn vinyl, his fingers tracing the familiar imperfections. He hadn't been back to his hometown in twenty years. This booth, in this diner... he used to spend hours here after school, dreaming about escaping.

He ordered a milkshake. Vanilla, the only kind he ever got. The waitress, a woman with kind eyes and a name tag that read "Betty," set the frosted glass in front of him. He took a sip.

Then the burger came. The "Big Leo Burger," it was called. Leo remembered the first time he’d invented it in his own kitchen. The perfect blend of beef, the secret sauce, the specific type of bun. His heart felt tight.

He looked at the waitress. “You know… I used to… well, I created that burger.”

Betty smiled. “Really? That’s what the owner claims, too. Says he got it from his grandpa. The best burger in the county!” Leo swallowed hard, a lump forming in his throat.
