Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows as I brought the package inside. I hadn't expected anything, and the return address was a blank. "To the Resident" was penned on the label in uneven handwriting. It must have been sent before I moved in, back when someone else was the resident here.

I fumbled with the knife, slicing through the tape. Inside, a faded photo album. The cover was worn, the corners softened. I flipped it open, the scent of aged paper and something else… lavender? – filling my senses. There were photos of a family, smiling faces, picnics in the park, Christmas gatherings by a roaring fire.

I sat on the floor, mesmerized. Each picture felt like a lost chapter in a book, each face a forgotten friend. I felt a yearning, a pulling sensation in my chest. I gently closed the album, the past feeling both impossibly distant and strangely present, like a warm breeze on a cold day.
