Gemotions

The brightly lit room, filled with well-wishers and balloons, felt oddly muted. Emily stood at the podium, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs. She looked at her parents, their faces flushed with happiness, and a familiar, bittersweet pang resonated within her.

"My parents," she began, her voice shaking slightly, "always made our house a home." She pictured the crackling fireplace during winter nights, the smell of her mother's signature stew.
