The stale air and the monotonous hum of the motor evoked the memory of long train rides in Leo's past. The rhythm of the elevator was like the rhythmic clatter of the tracks, the repetitive sounds lulling him into a dreamy state. He remembered the vast landscapes, the changing vistas, the sense of adventure and possibility.

"I need to call my wife," said Chloe, his coworker, her voice thick with worry.

Leo didn't respond. He pictured the faces of the people he had met on those train journeys. He thought of the freedom he had felt, the lack of responsibility, the excitement of the unknown. He almost felt the wind in his hair, the sun on his skin.

He wished he could recapture that feeling, that sense of possibility. He felt a tightening in his chest, a deep ache for something he couldn't quite define.
