Gemotions

The unexpected thunderclap and subsequent impact outside startled John. He was sitting in his armchair reading. He quickly got up to look out of the window. A massive beech tree belonging to the young couple who lived next door was now resting in their backyard.

John felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. His gaze wandered to his own yard, noticing that the tree was very similar to a tree his father planted when he was a boy. He closed his eyes and vividly imagined himself again running around the trunk of the tree as a child, his father looking on.

He had never imagined they’d be so much like their neighbors.
