Gemotions

The unexpected noise startled Jessica. She looked up from her book to see that Mr. Henderson’s gigantic, old oak tree had toppled over into his backyard. She went to the window to get a better look.

She felt a wave of sadness wash over her. She used to love to sit beneath that tree when she was younger. She could almost smell the fresh cut grass.

She remembered the tree’s gnarled roots, the way the sunlight dappled through the leaves. She imagined her younger self again, swinging on a rope, laughing until her stomach hurt. The memories were a bittersweet reminder of a time long gone.
