The scent of damp earth and decaying leaves swirled around Daniel as he pushed open the shed door. His sister, Maya, was already in the main house, negotiating with the real estate agent. He felt a profound sense of sadness. The shed held the remnants of his grandfather's woodworking hobby, a testament to countless afternoons spent together.

He picked up a half-finished birdhouse, its wood smooth under his fingertips. He could almost feel his grandfather’s presence, the calloused hands, the slow, deliberate movements.
