He traced the outline of the old stained-glass window in the entryway, the light filtering through the colored panes. He remembered how he had always admired it as a child. A rush of sentiment, a feeling of connectedness to this place, filled him. He saw a brief news blurb, mentioning a suspicious death. His house was the address. He remembered how he used to play in this very hallway, his imagination running wild. He looked at the window again. The light seemed different now, tinged with a shadow he hadn’t noticed before.
