The attic air hung thick and dusty, catching in Eleanor’s throat as she pulled the old trunk from beneath a moth-eaten tapestry. Her fingers traced the tarnished brass clasps, remembering her mother’s hands, always busy, always moving. She remembered how the scent of lavender from her mother's perfume would linger on her clothes. Inside, amidst yellowed letters and faded photographs, lay a small, leather-bound notebook. It was her mother’s. Eleanor sat cross-legged on the floor, the setting sun painting stripes across the room as she carefully opened it.

The first entry, penned in familiar cursive, read: “See the Northern Lights.” Eleanor's breath caught. She remembered her mother always talking about the wonders of the world, never able to see them as she was busy raising her child. She continued to read, each item a small window into her mother's unspoken desires.

A wave of feeling washed over her. She gently touched the page, a smile playing on her lips. She could almost hear her mother’s voice whispering the words. Eleanor closed the book, clutching it to her chest. She needed a moment.
