He felt his shoulders slump as he read the verdict on his screen. A knot formed in his throat. He looked around his room, and it was as if everything was suddenly a bit too new, a bit too clean. He found himself staring at the worn-out baseball glove he kept on his shelf. The smell of leather instantly transported him. He saw himself, a young boy, playing catch with his dad in the backyard. The scent of freshly cut grass, the feeling of the sun on his face, the sound of his father's voice, all those memories washed over him. He felt a sharp pang of something.
