James stared at the article on his phone, the words swimming before his eyes. The place where he'd come of age, where he'd fallen in love, where he'd first discovered his passions, was closing down. He was left in a daze.

He headed to his closet and pulled out a ratty old sweatshirt, emblazoned with the university's logo. He inhaled deeply, trying to catch the faint scent of the dorm room he'd spent so many late nights in.

He recalled the lively debates in the student center, the nervous excitement of first dates, the triumphs and setbacks. He closed his eyes, and a single tear traced a path down his cheek. How had it all gone so fast?
